We know why diversity is important, but how do we drive real change at work?

What are the steps we must take and the personal and emotional journey we must undertake in order to create an inclusive workplace where everyone can thrive?

“I’ve long valued the modern lens through which Jennifer approaches diversity and inclusion. How to Be an Inclusive Leader lends a long-overdue voice to inclusive leadership in the new workplace.”

How to Be an Inclusive Leader is a simple, accessible and intuitive guide to becoming a more inclusive leader, and is essential reading for anyone ready to do their part at work.

It guides readers through the Inclusive Leader Continuum – a four step journey that codifies developmental stages (unaware, aware, active, and advocate) for all leaders who want to take on the task of creating an inclusive space.

Along the way, you’ll learn about the hallmarks of each stage, the behaviors and mind-sets that inform it, and what readers can do to keep progressing.

Whether you’re a powerful CEO or a new employee without direct reports, How to Be an Inclusive Leader will meet you where you are and provide you with a road map that will help to create a workplace of greater mutual understanding where everyone’s talents can shine.

I’m Jennifer Brown

I’m Jennifer Brown

Award-winning entrepreneur, speaker, diversity and inclusion consultant, and author

I’ve spent over fourteen years guiding organizations as a workplace diversity and inclusion consultant to help them skip right past the “why” of diversity and get straight to the “how” in order to spark real change.

As a woman and a member of the LGBTQ community, I understand what it means for an individual to minimize or hide aspects of their true self in the workplace for fear of not being fully embraced. In my early years as a professional, I personally faced similar challenges in the workplace. But my journey has given me the courage to be not only be myself, but to share my experiences and passion for advocacy to help organizations and individuals contribute to their fullest potential.

This book was born out of my realization that very few books show how to actually create a diverse and inclusive workplace for all. My goal with this book is to help companies and individuals transform how they see diversity & inclusion, and create spaces in which people no longer feel like “the only”, but instead welcomed, valued, respected, and heard.

“The reality is that we can all do more to make our teams and workplaces more inclusive, and this important book shows actual steps for making this happen.”

Mike Robbins

Author of Bring Your Whole Self to Work

I believe in the power of authenticity and that the courage of other people is what keeps us going. I believe in creating a new reality for generations to come. And I believe that we can all do more when we stand together.

Whether you’re a powerful CEO or a new employee without direct reports, there are actions you can take that can drastically change the day-to-day reality for your colleagues and the trajectory of your organization.

How to Be an Inclusive Leader lays out simple steps to help you understand your role, boost your self-awareness, take action, and become a better version of yourself in the process.

This book will meet you where you are and provide a road map to create a workplace of greater mutual understanding where everyone’s talents can shine.

Kind Words from Inclusive Leaders:

“Finally, a book that acknowledges that allyship is a continuum and that all of us should up our advocacy constantly, like working a muscle. The situational examples allow us all to dress rehearse how we’ll meet these moments when they come up in real life. A must-read for anyone committed to a world where we all belong and contribute fully.”
